MTN Mobile Money Uganda, in partnership with Kampala Capital City Authority, has handed over Ramadhan hampers to women road workers in Kampala and to inmates at Luzira Prison, as part of its “Ramadhan Kareem with MTN” campaign supporting Muslim communities during the Holy Month.
On Friday, March 6, 2026, MTN Mobile Money Uganda (MTN MoMo), together with KCCA, distributed Ramadhan alms to women road sweepers and cleaners across Kampala, reaffirming its commitment to supporting the Muslim community during the Holy Month.
The handover ceremony was attended by MTN MoMo officials and city leadership, including Kampala Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago and KCCA Executive Director Hajjat Sharifah Buzeki.
The initiative follows a similar outreach on March 5, when MTN MoMo provided food hampers to inmates in both the men’s and women’s wings at Luzira Prison to assist them during the fasting period.
The hampers contained essential food items and cooking supplies, providing practical support for beneficiaries during Ramadhan. Women road workers, who play a key role in maintaining cleanliness in Kampala, were among the main recipients.
Speaking at the handover, Peter Ochen, General Manager of Financial Operations at MTN MoMo, emphasized the importance of giving back to communities during Ramadhan.
“Ramadhan Kareem with MTN is about more than connectivity or transactions; it is about standing with our communities during a sacred and reflective season. Through these alms handovers to Luzira Prison and our partnership with KCCA to support women road workers, we are demonstrating our commitment to celebrating and uplifting the Muslim community in practical and meaningful ways,” Ochen said.
He also highlighted MTN MoMo’s ongoing customer engagement initiatives during the month. Customers sending or receiving money via MTN MoMo International Money Transfer are eligible to win a fully sponsored trip, weekly Ramadan shopping rewards, and a grand Eid shopping prize.
Hajjat Sharifah Buzeki praised MTN MoMo for supporting women during Ramadhan and called for expanded collaboration with KCCA to improve the livelihoods of Kampala residents.
She suggested partnerships could include initiatives allowing vendors access to financing, market opportunities, and business growth.
Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago welcomed the initiative, noting its timing was particularly meaningful with International Women’s Day approaching.
“MTN MoMo could not have done this at a better time. This gesture is very welcome and speaks to the importance of supporting the women who work hard every day to keep our city clean,” he said.
The “Ramadhan Kareem with MTN” campaign includes a series of activities across the country, such as mosque activations, Iftar dinners, and alms-giving initiatives, alongside special seasonal offers for MTN customers.
Through these initiatives, MTN MoMo and MTN Uganda aim to strengthen their role as community partners while enabling customers to stay connected financially and socially during Ramadhan.
